How To Fasten Off
Fastening off is the technique used to secure your crochet work so the stitches do not come undone after finishing. It is commonly done at the end of a project or when completing separate pieces such as arms, ears, or legs. This step is especially important in amigurumi projects, as it helps keep the stuffing hidden and prevents an opening from forming at the end.
Once you finish an amigurumi piece, there will usually be a small hole remaining in the center.

To fasten off, cut the yarn while leaving a tail long enough for weaving in or sewing the piece together if necessary. Pull the cut yarn completely through the final loop on the hook until only the yarn tail remains. Then, thread the yarn tail through a tapestry needle.

Insert the needle under the front loop of the next stitch only, then pull the yarn through gently to tighten the opening.

Continue repeating the same step, inserting the needle through the front loop of each stitch in the final row. As you pull the yarn tight, the center opening will gradually close securely.

If the piece will later be attached to another part, leave a longer yarn tail for sewing.
If not, leave just enough yarn to secure the end by weaving it through the piece. Using the same tapestry needle, insert it through the center opening, pass it through the body of the crochet piece, and bring it out on the opposite side. Then trim the yarn close to the surface of the piece.

This final step neatly completes the piece and helps keep your crochet work securely in place.
